Chow Mien (and so high in protein!)
Chow Mien is a favourite dish amongst my friends (and even my husband!). This Chow Mien is high in protein, simple to make and can be stored in the fridge for left overs. Enjoy!
500g turkey mince
1 brown onion, diced
3 teaspoons curry powder
2 large carrots, grated
1/2 green cabbage, shredded
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 cups green beans
2 chicken stock cubes
2 tablespoons soy sauce
Brown onions and meat in a non stick pan, then add the curry powder.
Add all other ingredients and about 1 cup of water and leave to simmer (adding more water if necessary until vegetables are cooked and cabbage is soft).
Voilà! It’s that easy!
Side note: I like to have Chow Mien with a bit of sweet chilli sauce stirred into it, my husband prefers it without (definitely not due to the fact he is watching his sugar intake!).
Are you worried about the sugar in the sweet chilli sauce? If the majority of your diet is reasonably healthy (mainly whole foods and minimal junk) then I don’t think you should waste your time worrying about the sugar you’re getting from sweet chilli sauce.
But if you eat a whole lot of junk then of course even more sugar from the sweet chilli sauce isn’t going to be good for you. To put things into perspective, I think you should be more worried about the amounts of sugar you get from junk, before you worry about sugar in sweet chilli sauce. Read my sugar rant.

And of course, here’s Martha Stewart on creating the perfect theme for Chow Mien if you do the whole themed dinners with friends!
